Of English deforestation, the word deforestation lets name the action and effect of deforesting (strip a plot of trees and plants ). This process of disappearance of forest masses is usually caused by power human by felling and burning.

Deforestation is usually driven by the timber industry, paper manufacturers, infrastructure construction (such as roads or homes) and agricultural enterprises (which take advantage of the land to plant the most profitable crops and market them). Latin America and West Africa they are the regions most affected by deforestation, although the phenomenon exists in all parts of the world.

The disappearance of forests and jungles It constitutes a serious environmental problem. The decrease in the number of trees produces imbalances in the weather , it alters the habitat of the animals and reduces the capacity of the planet to absorb carbon dioxide and transform it into oxygen .

In recent years, international society has become more aware of the problem of deforestation. The social pressure on the authorities managed to stop logging in many regions and forests to be considered as ecological and tourist resources of great value.

Responsible and sustainable tourism, in fact, is a way of generating income from forests and jungles. This is the main argument of those who oppose deforestation, without taking into account, of course, that the main reason for this opposition is ecological and not economic (a forest is necessary beyond its ability to generate income).

Problems arising from deforestation

The problem of deforestation not only lies in the sacrilege of hundreds of plant species but also results in the death of animal organisms for whom the existence of that green space was fundamental for survival To give a very simple example. If squirrels live in a forest and all trees are cut down, they will have to migrate or die and their predators will suffer the same fate. It should be mentioned that in addition, in each forest there are thousands of species, many of which have not even been discovered by humans. Because of deforestation, many disappear every day from the planet.

As the statistics put it, more than 8093.7m² are deforested in Colombia and, if so, in just 40 years Colombia will not have forests. Also the tropical forests, dispersed in various parts of the planet, suffer daily and continuous logging; hundreds of years old trees are felled together with younger ones and hollow spaces remain in the forests. But this is not the only problem.

One of the importance of forests is its ability to neutralize tons of carbon dioxide, that gas from waste caused by the manufacture of fossil fuels. With uncontrolled deforestation decreases the ability to reoxygenate the environment and this results in a inconsiderate increase in environmental pollution which, as expected, entails a host of other ecological problems.

Among the problems caused by deforestation is the desertification or desertification (process by which extremely rich lands of life lose their fertility, becoming deserts). In general it happens that many hectares are cleared with the objective of establishing a livestock business. In this way, the space that was previously covered with vegetation is now trampled daily by cattle and loses all its fertile value; making the growth of future life impossible.

There are many other problems arising from deforestation, such as the increase in global warming, destabilization of the climate, increase of the ecological problems of the area.
